Carved Porcelain Forms

Process-Carved Porcelain Apprenticeship

Paint slip on the wheel
Draw lines with dental pick
Carve away negative space
This is a simplified outline of the process I learned while studying with master carver Leslie Thompson. I met her at the Baltimore Craft Council show and was invited to come spend a week with her in her beautiful Southern California home. We slipped, carved and fired pots. See above for finished work.
