Memory Loss Dolls

This is a project that deals with the loss of memory, especially the memory of making. On an individual scale these dolls, fashioned after old ladies, are armless and unable to use the skills they have accumulated throughout their lives. They have lost their making memory in the way that we all ultimately will. I created the dolls in an "assembly line" style, working them as a whole, step by step. This process disconnects me from the final piece, puts me at a disadvantage for adjustments, but is much quicker. Because of how the dolls were made, they talk about the loss of making memory as a society. I am concerned about the issue of accumulative memory loss of skills as older people start to forget.
